High Fidelity Simulation for RO Desalination Plant

Our client required a high fidelity dynamic process simulation of the pumping, piping and membrane systems of their large RO desalination plants. The client's aim was to optimize the operations of their plants as demand, inlet temperature and salinity varied seasonally. Process Clarity created a pressure-flow simulation which matched the pump, pipe and valve characteristics of their plants and then integrated these into a model of the membrane performance. The simulation was designed to allow use of manufacturer's data, so that the complete simulation would produce accurate plant behavior over the range of operating conditions. The client was then able to take this model and use it as an operations optimization tool.

High Fidelity Simulation of Multiple Evaporator Systems

The client wished to analyze evaporator performance across multiple plants and process designs, throughout the daily/weekly cycle, with the aim of optimizing start-up, CIP and shut-down sequences. Evaporator designs with multiple effects and passes with direct steam, MVR and TVR designs were simulated to an extremely high level of dynamic realism and validated against real plant data for final dynamic tuning. The client currently uses these simulation tools for operator training and for operations optimization; tightening up start-ups and shut downs and significantly minimizing wasted materials, heat, water, power and chemicals.

Milk Tanker Receiving and Raw Milk Processing Simulation

Our client requested a dynamic simulation of their tanker unloading bays and raw milk handling area for the purpose of testing out different capital expansion scenarios and different rule systems for the unloading and processing operations. The simulation was linked to Excel so that it could run real historic tanker arrival data through weeks or months and analyze different control systems and decision systems under a range of scenarios.
